Life for Relief and Development recently completed one of the most successful Uhiyah campaigns in its 18 year history.
With the blessings of Allah (swt) and the generosity of its donors, nearly 250,000 people benefited from the distribution of fresh meat from animals sacrificed during the days of Eid ul Adha.
Below is a country-by-country report on Life’s 2010 Udhiyah / Qurbani Campaign:
Palestine - The largest distribution of meat came in Palestine, where over 100,000 Palestinians benefited. Meat was distributed in dozens of cities, villages, and refugee camps in both Gaza and the West Bank.
Pakistan - Life’s team in Pakistan distributed the meat from 2,793 Udhiyah cow shares to families and groups of orphans in several provinces. Approximately 63,500 Pakistanis benefited.
Syria - Nearly 25,000 Syrians, Palestinian refugees, and other residents of the country benefited from the distribution of Udhiyah meat.
Jordan - Life staff distributed Udhiyah meat in 6 towns and 10 Palestinian refugee camps. The total number of people, including orphans, who benefited is estimated at 16,388.
Somalia - 14,900 people from Lower Shabelle to Somaliland received Udhiyah meat.
Sierra Leone - Approximately 7,500 people, including orphans, benefited from the distribution of meat from 24 cows. The meat was distributed at 11 locations across the country.
Ethiopia - 11,400 Ethiopians from throughout the country benefited.
Sudan - Some 5,000 Sudanese, including Darfurians, received Udhiyah meat.
Iraq - Nearly 4,000 Iraqis spread across Baghdad, Diyala, Kirkuk, Basra, and Mosul were recipients of Udhiyah meat.
Kenya - Some 1,800 Kenyans received gifts of Udhiyah meat.
Haiti - In earthquake-ravaged Haiti, some 1,200 people received Udhiyah meat, which was distributed at 10 mosques across the country.
India/Kashmir - Over 1,200 people were treated to gifts of meat for Eid.
USA - Life was able to distribute Udhiyah meat to nearly 1,000 needy families through mosques and community centers in Michigan and Ohio.
Bangladesh -Meat was distributed to 900 needy people.
Ghana - 500 orphans and adults received shares of Udhiyah meat in this West African country.
