Life Completes 2nd Mission to Haiti

View Album>>
Ever since a devastating earthquake struck Haiti last January, Life for Relief and Development has been working diligently to provide assistance to survivors.
Immediately after the quake struck, Life dispatched an emergency response team from its headquarters in Michigan to deliver food and other aid in and around Port-au-Prince. By the end of this first mission to Haiti, the Life team had distributed nearly 60 tons of food to thousands of people, many of whom were orphans.
At the end of February, Life dispatched a 2nd mission to Haiti. This time, Life’s staff was charged with overseeing the distribution of medical supplies, medicine, bottled water, diapers, baby formula, tents, and other relief items from eight 40 ft. containers that were shipped from the U.S. to Haiti.
Life’s staff worked with the Haitian Ministry of Health to pinpoint five hospitals that were in need of the supplies and equipment being donated. The Minister of Health himself expressed great appreciation for this effort in helping his ailing countrymen.
The relief team also visited with members of the Haitian-Muslim community to formulate needs assessments and to pledge specific support for mosque renovation projects.
Sometime in April, Life staff will be deployed for a 3rd mission to Haiti, during which they will distribute medical equipment, medicine, food, and other relief items. Also, Life will begin renovating three Haitian mosques and look into long-term housing options for those who remain homeless after the earthquake.
Life remains committed to the rebuilding process in Haiti, which the government estimates will cost at least $11 billion. Updates regarding future Life activities in Haiti will be posted online at www.lifeusa.org.
