Iraqi Hospitals Receive Medical Supplies

View album
At a recent conference in Iraq that was hosted by the World Health Organization, experts and government officials gathered to discuss the state of the healthcare system in the country.
Their conclusion: the process of rebuilding and modernizing the country’s hospitals and clinics needs “years of work.”
For over a decade, Life for Relief and Development has worked to help solve many of the urgent needs of the Iraqi healthcare sector, by providing supplies to hospitals and clinics, conducting health fairs and workshops, and by operating its own network of six healthcare clinics.
Life has continued its work along these lines in 2010 by distributing tons of medical supplies and equipment to hospitals and clinics in a number of Iraqi provinces.
The supplies were provided by AmeriCares, which has partnered with Life in order to deliver regular shipments of medical equipment, medical supplies, and medicine to Iraq.
In a similar project supported by AmeriCares, Life distributed supplies and equipment to the main hospital in the city of Diwaniyah and to Life clinic in Basrah.
The Diwaniyah Hospital is the largest medical center in the southern province of Al-Qadissiya, and serves a population of approximately 450,000 urban and rural residents. It is also a teaching hospital, where young medical students are trained to become physicians. Life clinic is serving thousands of patients in Basrah city.
Life was able to deliver an entire container of supplies and equipment to the hospital and the clinic. The container included the following items:
- 12 pallets of assorted medical supplies
- 2 dental chairs
- Hoyer lifts with slings
- An Infant incubator
- 20 I.V. poles
- 9 portable oxygen tank carriers
- 3 pallets of wheelchairs, walkers, and crutches
- 4 exam tables
Also included in the shipment were three pallets of medical textbooks. These textbooks will provide tremendous help to students and professors, who will now have access to information on the latest medical advances.
Life is committed to alleviating the suffering of needy people around the world, without regard for race, gender, or religion. With the help of our donors and partners, we will achieve our goals, in Iraq, and elsewhere.
