Life completed the digging of 14 Water wells and began building of an Orphanage and 4 Community Centers in Sierra Leone
Over the past decade, Life for Relief and Development has become very active in Sierra Leone by building and operating an orphanage, distributing books to schools, and providing food to needy families.
Life has redoubled its commitment to the people of Sierra Leone through the adoption of a number of new projects in the country this year.
Chief among these projects is the construction of Life’s new campus in the capital city of Freetown, which will include the following:
- An orphanage for boys
- An orphanage for girls
- A school
- A masjid
- A clinic
The campus will be surrounded by a concrete wall to provide both safety and privacy for the orphans. Hundreds of children are expected to benefit from this exciting project, which is being built with the help of the UAE-based Al Rahma Charity. Only the Masjid is being built with funding from Al Rahma Charity.
Also under construction are four community centers in different towns. These are:
- Masjid Jennan in Kenema
- Masjid Nu’maan in Port Loko
- Masjid Al-Rawi Brama Town District Mile 6
- Masjid Al-Hadi Brama Town District Mile 4
These community centers will provide a space for neighbors to come together to socialize, learn, and worship.
Accompanying each of these four community centers will be a new water well. In fact Life is digging 14 new water wells across Sierra Leone in order to improve access to safe and clean drinking water.
Three existing facilities, one mosque in Kenema, another mosque in Port Loko, and Life’s Masjid in the town of Mile 91 each received new electricity generators. The availability of round-the-clock electricity has been a major improvement to these facilities. The generators have already had a noticeable impact on the people in and around these institutions.
In addition to these activities, Life is still running and supporting its original orphanage in Mile 91 where about 500 children still live, and whom are sponsored by Life.
For example during the spring, Life surprised every one of its orphans with gifts of new clothing, sports jerseys, and shoes. The orphans were very excited to receive the unexpected gifts, which were handed out just in time for the summer recess.
With the continued blessings of The Almighty, and the help of its donors, Life will be able to increase the number of projects it undertakes in Sierra Leone, and increase the number of lives it works to save and improve around the world.
