Throughout the year, Life for Relief and Development has arranged for the distribution of a variety of relief items and gifts to needy families across several Iraqi provinces.

Earlier this summer, in the Shatt Al-Arab district of Basra, Life invited dozens of poor families to select from a variety of items that were being offered. These included:

• Men’s and women’s watches
• Women’s clothing and purses
• Athletic shoes
• Children’s Diapers
• Toothbrushes
• Mosquito nets

The mosquito nets in particular are very important for protecting both children and adults from disease-carrying mosquitoes and other insects that bite and infect during hot and humid summer nights.

The recipients of these gifts expressed great joy and gratitude for this humble effort, which comes at a time when the world’s attention has shifted away from their country, while poverty and hopelessness remain among millions of Iraqis.
