The various communities in Haiti were devastated by the Earthquake that struck their country in 2010.  Their struggles though go far beyond the destruction left by the earthquake.

Life for Relief and Development’s Emergency Response Team which visited Haiti nearly a dozen times, meet with several communities including members of the Haitian Muslim community. The thirst for knowledge and education among Haitians was evident on each trip, and so Life promised to help in any way it could.

Life was able to contact local community leaders to explore ways to provide educational books to the people in Haiti. One of the local community leaders volunteered to write books including one on the basics of Islam, translate it into French, the common language of Haiti, and print thousands of copies of the books at his own expense.

Life’s staff flew the books from the U.S. to Haiti and delivered them to various community centers in the country.  Leaders of the communities expressed great thanks for the books and for the humanitarian spirit that has continued to bring them assistance some two years after the earthquake.
