Afghan Orphan Graduation
Students in Afghanistan are finally celebrating the end of the 2005-2006 school year.
End of year exams were completed on the 7th of June with graduation ceremonies taking place six days later in Jalalabad and seven days later in Laghman. The success rate for graduating students in both schools has been phenomenal. Nearly 100% of both student bodies produced good results in their examinations and many graduated with exceptional marks.
The ceremonies at both schools were arranged to include the attendance of government officials, guardians of the orphans, and people from all around Afghanistan. Governors, Provincial Ministers, and other high officials attended the programs at both schools. Afghanistan media outlets, such as TV and local newspapers, were present for the ceremonies and provided good coverage of the events.
This year, both schools once again ranked as top performers in the Eastern zone of Afghanistan. One of the students who graduated from the 12th grade from Umar-Ibn-Al-Khattab School in Laghman secured top marks in the 100% margin, and maintained a top spot in the eastern zone. Similarly, one of our students who attended the Jalalabad School passed the 5th grade with top marks in the 99% margin and remained 1st in the eastern zone.
The Governor of Nangrahar in the Jalalabad province voiced his appreciation of the high educational standards set by the school and the subsequent accomplishments of its students. The Governor donated 50,000 rupees, the equivalent of $800 USD, for equal distribution among graduating seniors.
