LIFE for Relief and Development recently launched a project to distribute new clothes to 1,000 Iraqi refugees living in Syria.
The project is being funded through a generous grant from Qatar Charity.
At a July distribution ceremony in Damascus, families of refugees received packages that included the following:
· Men’s outfits, women’s dresses, and children’s clothing
· Socks and shoes for all family members
· Undergarments for all family members
· Sportswear/sleepwear for all family members
The brand new clothes and shoes are of a high quality, and all produced domestically.
Of the 4.2 million Iraqis who have fled their homes since the start of the war in 2003, one third of them have sought refuge in Syria. Most refugees have run out of money while they wait indefinitely for the situation in their home country to improve so that they may return.
LIFE has tried its best to alleviate the hardships being faced by Iraqis who are internally displaced and those who are refugees living in Syria and Jordan.
In addition to the current clothing distribution project, LIFE has previously distributed food packages (including meat) hygiene kits, and other relief items to Iraqi refugees in Syria.
Those who received the clothing packages were very excited and joyful.
