Support Given to Orphans and Poor Families in Basra

Life for Relief and Development recently completed a project to help improve health and hygiene among orphans and poor families living in the southern Iraqi city of Basra. Life partnered with its sister organization in Iraq, the Al-Rafd Charity, to implement this project.
Observing adequate levels of hygiene is vital to warding off sicknesses and maintaining healthy lifestyles. However for those struggling just to find food to feed themselves and their families, the cost of even the most basic of cleaning agents is simply out of reach.
In implementing this project, aid workers went door to door in the Abu Khaseeb District of Basra to distribute personal health and hygiene kits to help 40 struggling families. Emphasis was placed on families caring for orphans.
The contents of these kits included:
- Laundry detergent
- Cleaning supplies
- Shampoo
- Toothbrushes
- Toothpaste
- Bars of soap
- Razors
- Shaving cream & bristle brushes
- Feminine hygiene products
The recipients of these kits expressed great appreciation for their gifts and offered special prayers for all those who made this project possible.
