Horn of Africa Campaign Life for Relief and Development would like to bring to your attention the slow starvation that is taking place in the Horn of Africa, which includes countries like Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, eastern Sudan, and Kenya.    This part of the world has been plagued for years by both man-made and natural disasters, causing much suffering for tens of millions of people.  Yet despite widespread affliction, there has been little media attention given to this on-going tragedy.  In response to this humanitarian crisis, Life is launching a campaign to feed the hungry in this forgotten part of the world, and at the same time to improve the economic situation of suffering families. Families in Somalia and Ethiopia Receive Udhiyah Meat During its recent Udhiyah / Qurbani campaign, Life for Relief and Development distributed fresh meat to needy families in Somalia and Ethiopia. Eight New Wells Dug in Rural Ethiopia LIFE has commissioned the digging of eight water wells in the center of the country. The wells are spread out across the Woreda area of the Bale Zone. Youth Centers for Eritrean Refugee Camps The youth centers each have been equipped with televisions, satellite dishes, digital receivers, generators, and educational videos and DVDs. LIFE Partners to Provide Medical Supplies, Clothing & Humanitarian Aid to Hospitals & Civilians in Somalia Life in partnership with four other U.S.-based charities, provided three major shipments of medical supplies, clothing, educational books and other humanitarian supplies with a value of over six million dollars to hospitals, clinics, schools, and needy civilians in Somalia. Medical Supplies and Clothes Shipped to Somalia Nearly 6,000 people benefited from the distribution of the clothes, while 11 public and private hospitals received the medical equipment and supplies. Fighting Poverty in the Horn of Africa LIFE partnered with the American for the Horn of Africa campaign to help fight hunger and poverty in the Horn of Africa Digging Wells; Feeding the Hungry in Somalia Three schools and four villages in Hiraan and Lower Shabelle were selected to receive the wells, which were completed in July and are expected to serve 8,000 people and their livestock... 2008 - LIFE Feeds Eritrean Refugees Living in Sudan LIFE for Relief and Development funded a project to feed some 820 Eritrean refugees ... LIFE Ships Container of Relief Supplies to Somalia LIFE shipped a container of relief items, including food, medicine, wheelchairs, and school supplies, to aid the citizens of Somalia. Water Well Project in Ethiopia LIFE funded the construction of water wells in seven remote communities in Ethiopia, one of the poorest countries in the world. Feeding IDPs in Somalia For the past two decades Somalia has been devastated by civil war, foreign invasion, and natural disasters. This country of 8.2 million people has been without a functioning government for the past 16 years. During this period, hunger and violence has forced approximately 464,000 into refugee camps in neighboring countries.
