Zakat Al Fitr (Fast Breaking Charity)
The paying of Zakat Al Fitr during Ramadan is a requirement for each Muslim, whether male or female; adult or child, rich or poor. Zakat Al Fitr is considered an essential part of completing the fasting of Ramadan.
Every head of a household is responsible for paying Zakat Al Fitr for everyone living in that household. These include oneself, his/her spouse, children, servants, and parents (if they live in the same household). It has to be paid before Eid Al-Fitr prayer or else, according to the hadith of the Prophet (PBUH), it will be accepted as charity (Sadaqah).
The suggested amount of Zakat Al Fitr is $12 per person.
Life for Relief and Development distributes Zakat Al Fitr on your behalf to the needy in many countries across the globe.
