SIERRA LEONE

In the West African country of Sierra Leone, a little charity can go a long way. This country was devastated by an 11-year civil war, which left hundreds of thousands of widows and orphaned children as its legacy. Poverty and underdevelopment is rampant, and without the assistance of humanitarian organizations, a great number of Sierra Leoneans simply would not survive. Democracy is slowly being re-established after the civil war and the new government’s priorities include furthering development, creating jobs and stamping out endemic corruption. Over the past 15 years, Life for Relief and Development has become very active in Sierra Leone by building and operating an orphanage, distributing books to schools, and providing food to needy families. Life has redoubled its commitment to the people of Sierra Leone through the adoption of a number of new projects which include building community centers where families can worship and pray, digging water wells in villages. Life’s history in Sierra Leone began mainly because of the increasing number of children left orphaned and without food or clean water. Life began by rehabilitating schools where education and book distributions took place. The Orphanage that Life built currently supports over 200 orphans who are provided with food, shelter, clothing, and proper educational and medical care. Water and sanitation has also been a recurring problem in Sierra Leone and Life works hard to provide families living in villages with a permanent source of clean water by digging water wells.

CAMPAIGNS IN THIS AREA

Orphan Sponsorship

The need for orphan sponsorship has increased tremendously within the last decade. The influx of war has caused many to flee their homes and become displaced, affecting children the most. We have regional offices in all the countries that we sponsor Orphans in.

Education

This year, you can make a difference by helping us to provide needy children with school uniforms, shoes, socks, underwear and backpacks filled with stationary, pens, pencils and crayons.

Health

Life is aware of the present and looming threats to human health and safety in developing countries. We work around the clock to actively distribute medicine, medical supplies, and medical equipment, as well as build and renovate clinics and hospitals.

Water Wells

Water wells qualify as a source of ongoing charity. Donate a water well for your loved ones as a source of reward. Life digs water wells in villages and rural areas close to places of worship, hospitals, or schools.

Emergency Relief

The need for orphan sponsorship has increased tremendously within the last decade. The influx of war has caused many to flee their homes and become displaced, affecting children the most. We have regional offices in all the countries that we sponsor Orphans in.

Community Development

Life works to build community centers with the construction of clinics, schools, and places of worship. Our goal is to provide donors an opportunity to invest in the future of communities that lack basic centers.

Udhiyah/Qurbani

For many families in Muslim countries like Palestine, Iraq, Syria, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Afghanistan, meat is considered a luxury item out of their reach.  During this holiday season, one of the most important acts of worship is the sacrifice of a sheep, goat or cow as an Udhiyah/Qurbani.

Ramadan

Every year, Life distributes Ramadan Food Baskets in over 23 countries and also hosts Iftar meals in Masjid Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem, villages in Africa and to communities in the USA.
