Cold weather in northern Iraq presents a significant challenge for families with limited financial means, particularly those caring for orphaned children. In Erbil, winter conditions often coincide with gaps in access to electricity and basic services, leaving many households exposed to harsh temperatures without adequate protection.

For families living outside city centers, where infrastructure is less reliable, securing winter clothing can become an additional financial burden. Without support, many children face the winter season with insufficient protection against the cold.

To address this, Life for Relief and Development implemented a winter clothing initiative between December 22 and December 31, 2025, focusing on orphaned children in Erbil Governorate.

Through this program, 200 orphaned children, including 132 girls and 68 boys, received high-quality winter clothing designed to provide warmth and durability throughout the season. The project was carefully coordinated to ensure equitable distribution across age groups and gender.

Families described the assistance as both practical and transformative. One caregiver shared, “These clothes are something we could not afford, but something we needed.” Another added, “When my child put on the jacket, I felt relief I had not felt in a long time.”

The impact extended beyond immediate comfort. Parents noted that children were more able to attend school and participate in daily activities without the same level of discomfort or risk of illness.

One guardian reflected, “It is not just clothing. It is protection, and it gives us peace.”

Although the initiative addressed a critical seasonal need, underlying economic challenges remain. Continued support will be essential in ensuring long-term stability for vulnerable families.

This effort was made possible through donor generosity. Your contributions continue to provide meaningful protection for children across Iraq.
