Flood-Affected Communities in Pakistan Receive Food Relief from Life for Relief and Development (LIFE) During Ramadan 2026

The floods had receded months earlier, but in parts of southern Pakistan, their aftermath still lingered everywhere. In Uch Sharif and the surrounding areas of Bahawalpur, damaged homes, ruined crops, and rising food costs continued disrupting daily life well into Ramadan. Pakistan remains highly vulnerable to climate-related disasters, and communities already living in poverty are often the slowest to recover.
According to the United Nations, millions across Pakistan continue facing food insecurity following repeated flooding and economic instability. For families dependent on farming or daily labor, the loss of crops and income created mounting pressure ahead of Ramadan.
Ramadan became especially difficult for households already struggling to rebuild. Many families were still repairing damaged homes while attempting to secure enough food for Suhoor and Iftar (the meals that begin and break the fast). Elderly residents, widows, persons with disabilities, and displaced families faced some of the greatest hardships, particularly in flood-affected areas where recovery remained slow.
To support vulnerable communities during this period, Life for Relief and Development (LIFE) distributed Ramadan food packs and Iftar meal distributions across South Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between January 26 and March 6, 2026. In Bahawalpur alone, 100 Ramadan food packs were distributed to flood-affected households on February 16, reaching approximately 700 individuals. Each package included flour, rice, cooking oil, lentils, dates, sugar, tea, chickpeas, spices, and other essential staples designed to sustain families throughout Ramadan.
At the same time, LIFE-supported Iftar meal distributions in Charsadda, KPK, provided nearly 1,800 meals for individuals unable to afford proper food to break their fast. Volunteers, local representatives, and field teams coordinated distributions carefully, prioritizing elderly residents, women, persons with disabilities, and flood-affected households.
Among the beneficiaries was Hajra, whose home and belongings were severely damaged during the floods. “This assistance will help my family meet our basic nutritional needs during Ramadan,” she shared. “The support has brought relief and hope to us as we rebuild our lives.”
Another recipient, Nayaz, lost both his crops and primary source of income after the floods devastated his community. “With our livelihood gone, meeting daily food needs became a major challenge,” he explained. “This support will ease our burden during Ramadan.”
In communities still recovering from disaster, food assistance becomes more than emergency relief alone. It restores a sense of stability during periods of uncertainty and reminds struggling families that they are not navigating hardship in isolation.
Thanks to the generosity of donors, Life for Relief and Development continues reaching vulnerable families across Pakistan with programs that provide both nourishment and reassurance during difficult times. As climate disasters and economic hardship continue affecting communities throughout the region, sustained humanitarian support remains critically important.
