Gathering Around the Table: Life for Relief and Development (LIFE) Helps 220 Michigan Families Celebrate Thanksgiving

According to Feeding America’s 2025 Map the Meal Gap report, an estimated 1.5 million people in Michigan experienced food insecurity. During the holidays, the added cost of a special meal can place even more pressure on families already stretching limited budgets.
Thanksgiving is a time for families to gather, share a meal and create memories together. For families already managing rising food costs and other expenses, however, preparing a traditional holiday dinner can add another financial burden.
On November 26, 2025, Life for Relief and Development (LIFE) supported a Thanksgiving food distribution in Hamtramck, Michigan, helping local families celebrate without having to worry about putting a holiday meal on the table.
220 Families Received Thanksgiving Food
The distribution reached 220 families, or approximately 640 people, exceeding the original goal of assisting 198 families.
A total of 220 turkeys, including 100 halal and 120 regular turkeys, were distributed alongside traditional side dishes and pumpkin pies. Offering halal options helped ensure families with different dietary needs could take part in the holiday tradition.
The food packages included Thanksgiving staples such as mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, gravy, stuffing and dessert, giving families many of the ingredients needed to prepare a complete meal together.
A Community Coming Together
The distribution was supported by 16 volunteers, including local community members, university students and teachers, who contributed a combined 42 volunteer hours.
Participants shared that the assistance helped reduce some of the financial stress surrounding the holiday while allowing their families to participate in a meaningful Thanksgiving tradition.
One community member expressed their gratitude simply:
“I’m just grateful for all that you do here.”
Thank You for Helping Families Celebrate
Because of LIFE’s generous donors, 220 Michigan families were able to gather around their tables with food for Thanksgiving.
Your support allows LIFE to continue reaching families close to home and around the world, providing practical assistance during the moments when it can make a meaningful difference.
