Restoring Childhood, One Celebration at a Time
Childhood should be filled with laughter, friendship, and the excitement of celebrating life's special moments. Yet for millions of orphaned children around the world, these experiences are overshadowed by grief, poverty, conflict, displacement, and uncertainty.
The loss of a parent often extends far beyond emotional heartbreak. It can mean financial hardship, interrupted education, social isolation, and the loss of the safe, joyful experiences that define childhood. For many orphaned children, simply attending a celebration, receiving a gift, or spending a carefree day with friends becomes an opportunity they rarely experience.
Recognizing that children need more than food, shelter, and education to thrive, Life for Relief and Development (LIFE) launched its annual Global Orphan's Party initiative. These celebrations are designed to restore joy and strengthen emotional well-being.
In 2026, LIFE organized Global Orphan's Party celebrations in 16 countries, welcoming 4,448 orphaned children into safe, inclusive environments where they enjoyed recreational activities, shared meals, received gifts, built friendships, and created lasting memories.
While every celebration reflected the culture and circumstances of its local community, they all shared one purpose: to give children the opportunity to simply be children.
Why These Celebrations Matter
Maria Montessori famously said that "play is the work of the child," recognizing that play is essential to healthy childhood development. Through play, children learn to communicate, solve problems, regulate emotions, build relationships, and make sense of the world around them. For children who have experienced loss or adversity, play becomes even more important, helping restore confidence, heal trauma, experience good mental health, and reaffirm that childhood is still theirs to experience.
Celebrations also foster connection. They bring children together with their peers, caregivers, volunteers, and communities in an environment where they can simply enjoy being children. Friendships are formed, and confidence grows. These shared experiences create memories that often remain with them long after the day has ended.
The Global Orphan's Party is an investment in childhood, recognizing that emotional well-being, social connection, and joyful experiences are essential components of a child's healthy development.

Afghanistan
Decades of conflict, economic instability, and widespread poverty continue to place immense pressure on Afghan families, with orphaned children among those most affected. To bring moments of happiness, LIFE welcomed 350 orphaned children to a special celebration featuring games, recreational activities, entertainment, festive meals, school supplies, and gifts. Throughout the day, children laughed together, built new friendships, and enjoyed experiences many rarely have the opportunity to share.

Jordan
Many orphaned children in Jordan are being raised by widowed mothers or extended family members facing rising living costs and ongoing financial hardship. LIFE organized a day at an indoor amusement park for 170 orphaned children, providing transportation, recreational rides, games, a delicious meal, and 170 gifts. For many children, it was their first visit to an amusement park.

Bangladesh
In Bangladesh, orphaned children grow up in households struggling with poverty, where caregivers often face difficult choices between meeting daily necessities and providing recreation opportunities. LIFE brought together 200 orphaned children for a festive celebration featuring games, entertainment, shared meals, gifts, and activities designed to encourage friendship and joy. For one day, children were able to step away from daily challenges and simply enjoy the excitement of being together.

Gaza
The psychological impact of trauma can linger long after the immediate danger has passed, especially for children who have also lost a parent. LIFE organized a celebration for 500 orphaned children that prioritized emotional healing as much as celebration, creating a supportive environment where children could laugh freely, connect with their peers, and experience a brief but meaningful sense of normalcy.

Ghana
Economic hardship continues to affect many vulnerable families across Ghana, limiting opportunities for children to participate in recreational activities or community celebrations. LIFE organized a Global Orphan's Party for 300 orphaned children, offering a day filled with games, music, entertainment, meals, and gifts. The celebration created a welcoming environment where children could build friendships, laugh together, and create lasting memories.

Indonesia
In Indonesia, many orphaned children are raised by single parents or extended family members working hard to provide stability after the loss of a loved one. LIFE celebrated with 250 orphaned children, providing recreational activities, entertainment, shared meals, and gifts in an atmosphere filled with laughter and encouragement. The event emphasized not only celebration, but also inclusion, helping children feel supported by their wider community.

Iraq
Years after the height of the conflict, many families in Iraq are still rebuilding their lives, with displacement, financial hardship, and the lasting effects of war continuing to shape childhood for many orphaned children. LIFE welcomed 200 children to a celebration that offered something many had been missing: a chance to replace memories of hardship with new memories of joy. Surrounded by caring volunteers, children spent the day laughing, connecting with one another, and experiencing the excitement of Eid in a place where they could simply be children again.

Mali
In Mali, poverty and ongoing humanitarian challenges mean many orphaned children have few opportunities to enjoy experiences outside their daily routines. LIFE welcomed 112 children to a special celebration that gave them the chance to explore, discover new experiences, and enjoy a day filled with excitement and wonder. For many, it was a rare opportunity to create joyful memories that will stay with them long after the event.

Pakistan
Successive floods, rising living costs, and economic hardship continue to place enormous pressure on families across Pakistan, leaving many orphaned children with few opportunities to enjoy the carefree moments every childhood deserves. LIFE welcomed 170 orphaned children to a special Eid celebration that offered a welcome break from the challenges of daily life. More than a festive gathering, the event gave children the chance to rediscover excitement, share meaningful moments with their peers, and create happy memories that stood in contrast to the uncertainty many experience at home.

Senegal
For many orphaned children in Senegal, opportunities to participate in organized celebrations are rare. LIFE brought together 312 children for a day filled with interactive games, entertainment, yummy food, and unique gifts, creating an atmosphere of joy, inclusion, and community.

Sierra Leone
In Sierra Leone, the celebration placed orphaned children at the center of the day rather than on its margins. 300 children were welcomed as honored guests, giving them the rare experience of having an occasion planned especially for them. The event offered more than enjoyment; it gave each child the message that their presence mattered, their happiness was worth making room for, and their community had not overlooked them.

Mogadishu, Somalia
Years of humanitarian challenges have left many Somali families struggling to provide stability for orphaned children. LIFE celebrated with 200 children, organizing recreational games, entertainment, festive meals, and gift distributions in a safe and welcoming environment. The event encouraged children to build friendships, strengthen their confidence, and enjoy a day dedicated entirely to their happiness.

Somaliland
Hargeisa, Somaliland
Many orphaned children in Somaliland grow up with limited opportunities for recreation or organized community activities. LIFE hosted a celebration for 161 children, featuring games, performances, meals, gifts, and group activities that brought children together in a joyful atmosphere. Throughout the day, smiles, laughter, and shared experiences reminded every child that they are supported by a caring community.

LIFE welcomed 300 orphaned children to a vibrant Eid celebration featuring games, entertainment, festive meals, gifts, and recreational activities. The event gave children the opportunity to build friendships, create joyful memories, and experience the excitement of a celebration created especially for them.

West Bank, Palestine
In the West Bank, where uncertainty has become part of everyday life for many orphaned children, opportunities to simply celebrate can be difficult to find. LIFE welcomed hundreds of orphaned children for a joyful Eid gathering that replaced routine worries with moments of laughter, connection, and hope, reminding every child that they are valued, remembered, and part of a caring community.

Yemen
Taiz, Yemen
After years of conflict and one of the world's largest humanitarian crises, many Yemeni children have known little but hardship. LIFE brought together 300 orphaned children and their caregivers for a day of celebration that included amusement rides, face painting, live entertainment, hot meals, and 320 gifts. The event was also covered by three local television stations, helping shine a light on the needs of orphaned children while celebrating their resilience and joy.

A Lasting Investment in Childhood
Years from now, few of these children will remember every game they played or every gift they received. What they may remember is how they felt. They will remember that people they had never met gathered simply to celebrate them. They will remember laughter replacing loneliness, friendship replacing isolation, and a community reminding them they mattered. Every child deserves memories that make them smile when they look back on their childhood. For thousands of orphaned children, the 2026 Global Orphan's Party became one of those memories.
