In northern Lebanon, economic collapse has transformed ordinary daily necessities into luxuries for many families. Years of financial instability, currency devaluation, rising food prices, and the recent conflict have pushed vulnerable households deeper into poverty, leaving many unable to consistently afford basic meals.
According to the United Nations, more than 80% of Lebanon’s population now lives in multidimensional poverty, while food inflation continues to place enormous pressure on elderly individuals, widows, orphaned children, and low-income families already struggling to survive. For many households, Ramadan, a month traditionally centered around generosity and communal meals, has instead become a period marked by financial anxiety and uncertainty.
Beyond physical hunger, prolonged hardship often creates emotional exhaustion as well. Elderly individuals living alone, parents unable to provide meals for their children, and orphaned children growing up in underserved communities frequently experience feelings of isolation and helplessness alongside economic strain. In communities facing ongoing instability, humanitarian assistance becomes more than emergency relief. It becomes a reminder that vulnerable people have not been abandoned during difficult times.
In response to these growing needs, Life for Relief and Development (LIFE) supported the Ramadan Food Distribution project implemented across northern Lebanon from February 19 through March 18, 2026. Throughout the month of Ramadan, the initiative provided 1,222 freshly prepared meals to elderly individuals, orphaned children, and vulnerable families living in underserved communities. Meals were carefully prepared using fresh ingredients and distributed directly to beneficiaries through organized delivery systems designed to ensure dignity, safety, and fairness.
The project focused especially on individuals facing the greatest barriers to food access, including elderly residents unable to cook for themselves, low-income families overwhelmed by rising living costs, and orphans and their caregivers. LIFE’s distributions not only reduced immediate hunger but also helped ease financial stress on struggling households during Ramadan.
Volunteers and staff coordinated procurement, cooking, packaging, and delivery while working closely with local community networks to identify families most in need.
Among the beneficiaries was Abu Ahmad, a 72-year-old man living alone whose age and health conditions made preparing meals increasingly difficult. “These meals have become my daily support,” he shared. “I feel cared for and no longer worry about food.”
Amina, a mother of three living in a low-income area, described the relief the project brought to her family during Ramadan. “This support helped me focus on my children without worrying every day about how to feed them,” she explained.
These stories reflect the deeper impact humanitarian assistance can have during times of prolonged crisis. A warm meal can provide nourishment, but it can also restore dignity, reduce emotional stress, and remind vulnerable families that they are not facing hardship alone.
Thanks to the generosity of donors, LIFE continues to support vulnerable communities through programs that address both immediate hunger and long-term human dignity. As economic hardship continues affecting families across Lebanon, the need for compassionate humanitarian assistance remains urgent. Every contribution helps ensure that more families can experience moments of relief, stability, and hope during difficult times.
