Life for Relief and Development (LIFE) Provides Health Insurance for Orphaned Children, Summer 2026
When Getting Sick Comes With Another Worry
For parents and caregivers, a child getting sick can bring another immediate concern: whether medical care will be affordable. A World Health Organization evaluation found that only 55% of Jordanians had health insurance, while direct out-of-pocket payments accounted for about 36% of national health spending.
For families caring for orphaned children, health coverage can remove some of that uncertainty and make seeking treatment easier when it is needed.
1,034 Children Now Have a Card for Care
From June 14 to 30, 2026, Life for Relief and Development (LIFE) provided health insurance cards to 1,034 sponsored orphaned children in Jordan.
Cards were distributed through approximately 20 locations, including Amman, Salt, Karak, Zarqa, Madaba, Irbid and several refugee camps and surrounding communities.
For every child reached, the project added healthcare access to the ongoing support already provided through orphan sponsorship.
What This Health Insurance Covers
The cards provide free medical consultations with many participating physicians, as well as 50% reductions on other doctor consultations, laboratory testing, medical imaging, and diagnostic services.
Coverage also extends to common needs children may encounter, including dental care, orthopedic treatment and seasonal illnesses. This gives caregivers more options to seek medical attention without facing the full cost of services.
Care That Goes Beyond a Checkup
Some children need ongoing medical support rather than an occasional doctor visit.
The program also provides access to physiotherapy for sponsored children living with physical disabilities or muscular atrophy, helping them continue rehabilitation and receive care suited to their individual needs.
For caregivers managing long-term conditions, additional access can ease both practical and financial pressure.
“Now I Won’t Be Afraid When I Get Sick”
During one distribution, a young girl stepped forward to receive her new health insurance card. After taking it, she smiled and said:
“Now I won’t be afraid when I get sick, because I know I will be able to go to the doctor.”
Her words captured the project simply. The card gave her something every child should be able to feel when they are unwell: reassurance that help is within reach.
One Less Barrier Between a Child and a Doctor
Life for Relief and Development sincerely thanks the donors who made health insurance possible for 1,034 orphaned children in Jordan. Their generosity has added an important layer of protection to LIFE’s orphan sponsorship work, helping children access doctors, testing, treatment and rehabilitation when they need it.
