Life for Relief and Development (LIFE) Sponsorship Reaches 1,034 Orphans Across Jordan
Supporting Children Facing Financial Uncertainty
For a child who has lost a parent, grief can be followed by another kind of uncertainty: whether the family left behind will have enough to meet everyday needs.
In Jordan, financial pressure continues to affect vulnerable children and families. UNICEF reports that approximately 1 in 7 children in Jordan live in multidimensional poverty, meaning they may lack adequate access to necessities such as food, healthcare, education, housing or clean water. Refugee and other marginalized children can face even greater disadvantages.
For orphaned children living in financially vulnerable households, consistent assistance can help protect some of the stability that every child needs.
LIFE Reaches 1,034 Orphans
In April 2026, Life for Relief and Development provided sponsorship assistance to 1,034 orphaned children across 19 areas in Jordan.
The project reached children in communities including Amman, Al-Salt, Al-Karak, Zarqa, Madaba, Jerash, Al-Mafraq and several refugee camps.
LIFE team members also met directly with children and their caregivers. These meetings allowed staff to look beyond the distribution itself by reviewing children's educational progress, health conditions and any urgent needs affecting their well-being.
When Sponsorship Creates Stability
For Sara and Reem, two young sisters who lost their parents, LIFE's support meant so much.
The sisters were being raised by their elderly grandmother, who was struggling financially and with her own health. Their circumstances began affecting the girls differently. Sara sometimes missed school, while Reem became increasingly withdrawn.
After entering the sponsorship program, regular assistance helped the family obtain food, clothing and school supplies. Sara returned to school with greater confidence, while Reem began engaging more with other children. Their grandmother also felt more secure knowing she had help caring for them.
Their experience illustrates why consistent assistance can give caregivers room to provide food, education and other necessities while giving children greater stability as they grow.
