Pakistan is home to millions of orphaned children who face daily challenges after losing one or both parents. According to international estimates, the country has more than 4.5 million orphans, many of whom live in vulnerable households struggling to meet basic needs. Without consistent support, these children can face obstacles in accessing education, healthcare, and proper nutrition.
For many families, the loss of a parent also means the loss of the household’s primary source of income. Guardians, often relatives or widowed mothers, must find ways to support children while managing their own economic hardships. Programs that provide financial assistance, food support, and essential items can make a meaningful difference in helping orphaned children remain in school and maintain stability in their lives.
To support these vulnerable children, Life for Relief and Development (LIFE) implemented the Orphan Support Program in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Mehmood Kot between November and December 2025. Through the program, 228 orphaned children were assisted across two distribution phases, 117 children in the first phase and 111 in the second. The support included food packages, winter kits, and cash assistance to help families cover essential needs.
Food packs containing staple items such as wheat flour, rice, lentils, sugar, cooking oil, and spices helped meet nutritional needs, while winter kits, including blankets, jackets, gloves, caps, and socks, protect children from harsh seasonal conditions. Each orphan also received financial assistance to support education and household expenses.
The program not only addressed immediate needs but also created a joyful and supportive environment for the children. During the distribution events, meals, refreshments, and entertainment activities were organized so the children could socialize and experience a sense of normalcy and happiness.
One beneficiary, Areesha Nazim, lost both of her parents and now lives with her aunt, who cares for her and her siblings. Despite the hardships she has faced, Areesha continues her studies and dreams of becoming a social worker so she can support children experiencing similar struggles.
Another child, Rehan, has been coping with health challenges while helping support his family after the loss of his father. His mother expressed thanks for the assistance, explaining that the support provided much-needed relief during a very difficult time.
LIFE is grateful to the donors whose generosity made this program possible. Their support is helping orphaned children in Pakistan access education, stay warm during winter, and continue building hopeful futures. Through continued partnership and compassion, LIFE remains committed to strengthening its orphan sponsorship initiatives and reaching even more vulnerable children.
