As Ramadan 2026 began, many families in Garissa County were already facing difficult decisions around food and household expenses. Prolonged drought has steadily reduced access to reliable income, while rising prices have made even basic staples harder to afford. In communities such as Liban Village, these pressures are felt daily, particularly among households caring for children, elderly relatives, or individuals with limited mobility.

The strain is not only financial. When food access becomes uncertain, it reshapes how families plan their days, often requiring time and energy to be spent securing essentials rather than maintaining stability at home.

Against this backdrop, Life for Relief and Development implemented a Ramadan food distribution program in February 2026, focused on reaching households experiencing the greatest levels of vulnerability. Through its Kenya office, LIFE coordinated closely with community members to ensure accurate targeting and efficient delivery.

This effort reached 70 families with food baskets containing essential items such as rice, flour, sugar, cooking oil, and tea. The supplies were selected to support daily meal preparation throughout Ramadan, offering a degree of consistency during a period when food demand naturally increases.

For recipients, the change was both practical and emotional. One individual shared, “Before this, we were taking each day as it came. Some days we had enough, and some days we didn’t.” With the arrival of the food basket, that uncertainty began to ease, allowing families to plan their days with greater confidence.

Another reflection captured a quieter shift. The difference between managing hardship and experiencing a sense of calm within the home became more apparent as the constant concern over meals was temporarily lifted.

The impact extended beyond individual households, contributing to a broader sense of stability within the community. Families were able to focus more fully on daily life, rather than navigating continuous uncertainty around food.

While this support provided meaningful relief during Ramadan 2026, the effects of drought and economic strain remain ongoing. Sustained efforts will be important in helping communities build resilience over time.

Continued donor support made this work possible. Your generosity is helping families move through difficult periods with greater stability and reassurance.
