More than 80% of Lebanon’s population is now estimated to be living below the poverty line, a stark reflection of the country’s ongoing economic collapse. Since 2019, the rapid devaluation of the national currency, combined with rising unemployment and weakened public services, has made it increasingly difficult for families to meet even their most basic needs.
For households with children, the winter months introduce an additional layer of difficulty. Cold temperatures, combined with limited access to adequate clothing and heating, increase the risk of illness and discomfort, particularly for families already navigating financial strain.
Recognizing these conditions, Life for Relief and Development supported a winter relief initiative in January 2026, focused on providing essential items to orphaned children and their families in Tripoli and Akkar. Working in coordination with local teams, the program was designed to deliver timely support during the peak winter season.
The intervention reached 300 households, providing warm quilts and winter jackets for children. In total, 600 jackets and 300 quilts were distributed, offering immediate protection against cold weather and improving overall household comfort.
Families described a noticeable difference following the distribution. Caregivers shared that the assistance helped protect their children in ways they had not been able to manage independently, reducing concern over exposure to cold and related health risks.
The impact was not limited to physical warmth. For many households, the support eased financial pressure, allowing limited resources to be redirected toward other essential needs. One parent reflected that even modest assistance can change how a family experiences daily life during difficult periods.
Although this initiative addressed immediate seasonal needs, the broader economic challenges affecting Lebanon continue to shape long-term vulnerability. Continued support will be critical in helping families navigate both present conditions and future uncertainties.
This effort reflects the generosity of donors whose support made it possible. Your contributions continue to provide protection and stability to families across Lebanon.
