Food Insecurity in the U.S.A

According to Feeding America’s 2026 Map the Meal Gap report, nearly 48 million people in the United States experienced food insecurity, including 14 million children. For families struggling to afford enough food, access to fresh meat can be especially difficult, making seasonal food distributions such as Udhiyah an important source of support.

For families already balancing the cost of groceries, housing and other necessities, access to additional food support can help ease some of that pressure.

Life for Relief and Development (LIFE) provided assistance to families across Detroit, Michigan and communities in Ohio, helping ensure more people had access to food when they needed it.

Reaching 3,375 People

Through the project, LIFE provided food assistance to 675 families, reaching approximately 3,375 people. A total of 6,750 meals or servings of food were provided, helping families stretch their resources further while meeting an immediate and essential need.

Beyond the numbers, each distribution represented groceries on a table, meals for children and one less expense for families already managing competing costs.

Support That Makes a Difference

“Having this food available gave us one less thing to worry about. It meant we could make meals for my kids and use the money we saved for other things we needed.” - Maria, 34, single mother of three.
