Floodwaters Force Hundreds of Syrian Families From Their Homes
Families who already fled years of conflict have now been forced to run again
as floodwaters destroy tents, food, and clean water in displacement camps near Idlib.
They Survived War. Now, Floods Are Taking What’s Left.
Last Saturday, severe flooding hit camps in the Khirbet al-Joz area, west of Idlib,
destroying tents and leaving families exposed to cold nights, hunger, and unsafe water.
Some families have been evacuated to higher ground and are sheltering inside overcrowded schools,
safe from the floods but left with nothing. Others remain in flooded camps with limited supplies and worsening conditions.
“My children and I are grateful to be alive.
But we have no food or clean water, and we sleep on the cold ground without blankets to keep us warm.”
– Fatima, 32, mother of three
