As Syria enters a new era in 2025, it is not without the continuation of extreme hardship. Currently, 70 percent of the population is in need of humanitarian assistance. Knowing the urgent need for help, with your support, Life for Relief and Development fed thousands of hungry people across Syria during Ramadan 2025. LIFE’s Ramadan Program distributed food baskets and hot meals, feeding over 5000 children, women, and men struggling with hunger. Your kindness not only helped eliminate that hunger, but it also made it possible for entire communities to experience the peace, hope, and spiritual connection they long for during the holy month.
Over the past decade, more than 14 million Syrians have had to make perilous journeys to neighboring countries such as Türkiye, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt in search of safety, according to the UN Refugee Agency. Even as things start to change in Syria, there remains one of the largest refugee crises in the world. More than 7.4 million Syrians also remain internally displaced in their own country. As of early 2025, it’s estimated 17 million people in Syria require humanitarian assistance just to get by. That number includes 7.4 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) and 6.2 million refugees in neighboring countries. Most of these refugees and IDPs had to leave everything behind, putting them in severe financial hardship.
While millions dream of returning home, after over a decade of war, the infrastructural damage is extensive, leaving nothing but rubble to return to. In the chaos, jobs are hard to find, and resources are minimal. With the cost of living in Syria tripling in just three years, hunger is also increasing. The World Food Programme reports that the total number of food-insecure persons in Syria has now reached an alarming 9.1 million.
With food insecurity skyrocketing, LIFE’s Ramadan Program in Syria provided crucial food assistance at a critical time. Food baskets filled with vital essential food items, such as flour, cooking oil, and rice, were distributed to the most vulnerable families. This food basket initiative was able to feed almost 2400 individuals for an entire month. In addition to the food baskets, teams delivered warm, nutritious Iftar meals, remarkably feeding another 3000 people.
For Um Sanad, a widowed mother of three little girls, the food basket meant more than just food aid.
"I felt like we hadn’t been forgotten. Ramadan this year won’t be like the last. This basket came like a breath of relief at the hardest moment."
Um Sanad’s seven-year-old danced with joy after discovering a package of macaroni in the box. Her excitement over a package of macaroni reminds us of all we have and how little it takes to change someone’s life by giving them joy and hope.
Your support shows your willingness to feel compassion and make a profound difference in the lives of those who suffer as victims of tragic circumstances beyond their control.
Let’s continue to work together and spread hope around the world to those who need it most.
