There are many moments in a person’s life that stay with them; memories of togetherness, warmth, and laughter accompany them throughout the trials and tribulations they face over the years. Oftentimes, these memories are of celebrations, milestones, and big life events, all marked by the feeling of being surrounded and connected with family and loved ones.

Sadly, many orphans not only mourn the loss of their parents and the life they lost along with them but also endure the loss of many of these potential celebrations and events. Instead, a lingering sadness accompanies moments of joy, as the missing pieces of their family puzzle silently swell inside them.

For thousands of orphans in Ghana, this loss has become their norm. Approximately 17% of children in Ghana do not live with their parents, with thousands finding shelter and care in orphanages. The absence of a primary caregiver has a profound impact, as the well-being of orphans in residential care tends to be considerably lower than those cared for by extended families. In fact, 40% of children under the age of five in residential care were stunted, indicating the intensely vulnerable state these young children are in.

However, for many orphans not in orphanages, a life of protection and healthy development is not a guarantee. Thousands of young children are left to fend for themselves as they live and work on the streets. For those cared for by family members, the extra responsibility can add considerable financial strain, as about 23.4% of the population lives under the national poverty line. This can be especially seen in the recent rise of acute food insecurity, with approximately 1 million people struggling as of 2024.

The condition of poverty faced by millions in Ghana is further worsened by the natural disasters that frequently occur in the region. Flooding and droughts repeatedly impact food resources within the country, along with the livelihoods of citizens, further deepening poverty and food insecurity that threaten vulnerable families.

Aware of the challenges facing vulnerable orphans, Life for Relief and Development USA (LIFE) arranged a Global Orphans Party project on April 02, 2025, to provide relief and comfort to those most in need. In celebration of the day of Eid, a special party was organized at Lakeside Marina Park, Ghana, exclusively for 205 orphans and their caregivers, ensuring they experienced the joy and festivity of the occasion. The event provided delicious meals, gifts, and fun activities, bringing smiles to the children’s faces.

Directly reaching a total of 230 individuals, LIFE’s Global Orphan Party allowed orphaned children to experience the true spirit of Eid. Through festive celebrations with fellow orphans, along with nutritious meals and thoughtful gifts, the event created a sense of inclusion and togetherness for children who would otherwise feel isolated during this special time. Having the opportunity to play interactive games and activities particularly allowed them to bond with their peers and feel a sense of community.

Catering to the overall well-being of vulnerable orphans, volunteers and caregivers were able to provide emotional support, making the orphans feel valued and loved. Many of the children who attended the event reside in orphanages, so your donations and LIFE’s program were especially impactful as they provided a unique opportunity and emotional experience that would otherwise be missed.

Your generosity not only nourished these orphans’ bodies but also uplifted their spirits, allowing them to experience the joy of Eid in a way they never had before.
