In Iraq, many families continue to face economic pressures that limit access to basic necessities, particularly during seasonal periods such as Ramadan. As of February 14–18, 2026, households in Erbil were navigating increased food prices alongside ongoing financial constraints, placing additional strain on families already supporting orphaned children.
For these families, the cost of preparing meals during Ramadan can become a significant burden. Without assistance, families may be forced to reduce food consumption or make difficult trade-offs between essential needs.
In response, Life for Relief and Development implemented a targeted Ramadan food distribution program in February 2026, focusing on orphaned families in Erbil. The initiative aimed to provide comprehensive food support while reducing financial pressure during the fasting month.
Through this effort, 260 families received food baskets containing essential items sufficient to support a household for the duration of Ramadan. The packages were carefully assembled to reflect local dietary needs, ensuring both nutritional value and cultural relevance.
Beneficiaries shared that the assistance allowed them to approach Ramadan with greater confidence. Families were able to prepare meals consistently without concern over rising costs, and caregivers expressed relief in being able to provide for children without interruption.
While this support has provided meaningful relief, the need for continued assistance remains. Ongoing programs will be essential in supporting families facing prolonged economic challenges.
LIFE extends its appreciation to all donors who made this initiative possible. Your support continues to bring stability and reassurance to families across Iraq.
