Across Somalia, food insecurity rises and falls with rain that does not come on time, and with shocks that arrive anyway. In mid-2025, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification reported that poor rainfall, flooding, and conflict were driving about 3.4 million people into crisis-level acute food insecurity or worse, with hundreds of thousands experiencing emergency conditions.
In that environment, children feel hunger as both a physical and educational threat. The day’s meal shapes whether a child can concentrate, whether they attend class, and whether a household has enough stability to plan beyond tomorrow.
On Nov. 1 and Nov. 2, 2025, LIFE for Relief and Development carried out two in-kind food distributions in Somaliland, delivering MannaPack Rice to a total of 1,260 children across five communities. On Nov. 1, LIFE distributed food baskets to 630 children in Maamad, Caracad, and Qolqol. On Nov. 2, LIFE distributed to another 630 children in Maraalay and Jirjir. LIFE managed coordination and logistics to ensure children were present for distribution, with local support helping reach families efficiently.
“Now I can eat and go to school strong.” - Ahmad, 12.
“It’s not just food… it’s hope and togetherness for our families.”- Amira, 28, mother.
In places where a missed harvest can reshape a year, a reliable food basket can reshape a week, and sometimes a child’s ability to keep learning. LIFE’s November distributions delivered more than calories; they helped protect routines, dignity, and the small forward motion that families fight to preserve. Thank you to the donors, staff, and community members who helped make sure the food reached children and families in need.
