As of November 2024, the World Food Programme reported a dire situation in Togo’s northernmost Savanes region. It's the country’s most severe level of acute food insecurity, with an estimated 32% of the population in crisis or emergency conditions, leaving families struggling to survive.
At the same time, more than 58,000 refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) have been forced to flee their homes due to escalating violence and insecurity along the Burkina Faso–Togo border. Tragically, 82% of these displaced individuals are women, who now face the additional burden of providing for their families without access to food, clean water, healthcare, or education. With farmland lost and livelihoods destroyed, many are sinking deeper into hunger, malnutrition, and disease.
Recognizing the urgency, Life for Relief and Development USA (LIFE) launched a critical food distribution in Togo from February 5th to 28th, 2025, just ahead of the month of Ramadan.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, LIFE was able to provide 91 households, which is over 455 individuals, with food baskets containing essential staples such as rice, flour, and cooking oil.
Adjara, a devoted mother of three, had been facing enormous pressure to provide enough food for her children during Ramadan. Financial hardship left her unsure of how she would manage. Then she received a food basket from LIFE. “This project made Ramadan feel special for my family,” Adjara said. “It relieved so much stress, and we could finally enjoy the month together. Thank you, LIFE.”
With the burden eased, Adjara’s home was once again filled with the warmth of family meals and the peace of knowing her children were nourished.
Baki, an elderly man with limited mobility, often spent Ramadan alone, unable to attend iftar gatherings with others in his community. With limited income, Baki was never sure when his next meal would come. He often felt invisible. This year was different thanks to LIFE’s special delivery. “I was overwhelmed by the kindness of this program,” Baki shared. “It made me feel cared for during a time when I usually feel isolated.”
These stories are just two among many. The need remains great in Togo and beyond. We are truly grateful for our generous donors. Your continued support is crucial, it enables LIFE to respond with compassion and urgency, bringing relief to those in need in Togo and around the world.
