In the Idlib region of northwest Syria, what was once hoped to be a short-term stay in an IDP (internally displaced person) camp for droves of Syrians, who had to flee their homes under violent conflict, has now become a chaotic village of makeshift houses and tents after 11 years of civil war.  In Syria, there are approximately 7.4 million IDPs, with almost 2 million of those residing in northwest Syria, all fighting for space and resources.

Loss of livelihoods due to internal displacement can limit access to decent shelter, healthcare and education, while also jeopardizing security and social life. As critical as it is, healthcare is one service out of reach for so many struggling.

Hospitals throughout Syria have been bombed, medical supplies are in short supply, and treatment for those with diseases, such as cancer, is often beyond the realm of possibility. Care is not free, and families who struggle to buy food and keep a roof over their heads cannot afford the diagnostic tests or treatments, nor can they afford the transportation to take them to and from the hospital.

With your help, Life for Relief and Development provided a humanitarian medical project in Syria to help cancer patients. We were able to supply the residents in Idlib with much-needed cancer treatment that helped save the lives of 62 patients. These were people with nowhere to go, many of them children and the elderly.

Your donations covered:

●     Critical Diagnostics and Labs

●     Chemotherapy and cancer medications

●     Transportation to treatment centers

●     Follow-up care and monitoring

Where there was once only hardship, it brought the chance for survival, dignity, and peace.

More than half of Syria’s medical facilities have been destroyed, according to figures from the World Health Organization. Millions of Syrian refugees do not have access to adequate medical care. In Idlib, cancer has become a slow death sentence for people who cannot pay for private treatment or leave the region.

LIFE donors support rewrote that story for 62 individuals.

Thanks to your compassion, families in Idlib now have hope. Children are receiving treatment. Parents are no longer just standing by helplessly. Lives are being prolonged, and some may even be saved, through your decision to give.

We are very thankful for your patronage.

Thousands of cancer patients in Syria could be left without treatment, and time is not on their side. With your help, we can grow this program to help more and more people who are in dire need. With your help, we can deliver health, dignity and hope to the Syrians who need it most.
