Africa faces significant challenges related to water scarcity and quality, impacting millions of lives in the region. Over 400 million people lack access to clean water in Sub-Saharan Africa, leaving the population’s nutrition and health at risk.

To alleviate this issue, Life for Relief and Development (LIFE) dug seven wells in Gambia, Mali and Senegal.

Mariam Soka, in Basori, Gambia expressed her gratitude for the water well in her village.  “When I saw the machine digging and I asked the technicians what was going on, and they responded that they were bringing water to my village, you should have seen my face full of joy! I still did not believe him until we were called for the inauguration of the borehole,” said Mariam.

Now, months after the borehole has been placed, I can confidently tell you that this has improved our quality of life so much. Before this infrastructure, we were buying water. It was not cheap because we have a quite big family. Some days, the gentleman that sells water in my village would either come late or not come at all, leaving me to ask some of the neighbors if they have water. If they did not, I would have to use a horse and carriage to travel far with my kids to fetch water,” she continued. “Now, whenever I wake up in the morning after breakfast, I walk less than 5 minutes to go get some water with my kids.”

Thanks to our generous donors, we were able to provide clean water to many families like Mariam’s in Gambia, Mali and Senegal!
