In Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, families in rural areas of Mansehra, Charsadda, and Nowshera have long struggled with unsafe and distant water sources. This challenge significantly impacts daily life, health, and education. Women and children often walked miles each day to fetch water from open wells and streams, risking illness and losing valuable time that could have been spent in school or work.

To address this urgent need, Life for Relief and Development (LIFE) completed the installation of 12 solar-powered water wells between July and September 2025, bringing clean, accessible water to an estimated 3,300 residents. Each well was designed as a closed, solar-driven system to ensure both hygiene and sustainability, with multiple taps that allow several users to collect water at once. The wells are expected to last up to 25 years, significantly reducing the burden on local families and improving sanitation conditions across the three districts.

In Mansehra’s Salhati Malookra village, Awais Khan described how the wells have transformed life for women and children who previously carried water from distant, unsafe sources. “Now, clean water is just steps away,” he said, calling the project “a true blessing that brings comfort and hope.”

In Charsadda’s Dargai village, resident Tariq shared a similar story, “We spent years walking long distances for water that wasn’t always safe to drink. Now our children are healthier, and families have more time for work and school.”

By introducing solar-powered water systems, LIFE not only improved access to clean water but also restored time, safety, and dignity to thousands of people. These wells will continue to sustain communities for years to come, a lasting investment in health, education, and stability across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
