Syria remains one of the most complex humanitarian crises in the world. More than 14 million people continue to need humanitarian assistance, and 6.8 million are internally displaced. Years of conflict have crippled essential infrastructure and left families struggling with food insecurity, unemployment, and lack of access to healthcare and education. Rising inflation, energy shortages, and widespread poverty have forced many caregivers to make impossible choices, leaving children among the most vulnerable.

Between January and March 2025, Life for Relief and Development (LIFE), in partnership with Mercy Without Limits, provided crucial support to 2,800 orphaned children, equally divided between boys and girls, across Azaz, Afrin, Al-Bab, and Maarrat Misrin. Through its Orphans Cash Assistance Program, LIFE worked to restore stability to children’s lives through food, education, psychosocial care, and dignity-centered distributions.

The program achieved several milestones during the quarter:

  • Verification and Documentation: 1,204 families were verified to confirm eligibility, ensuring transparency and accuracy in sponsorship selection. Each child received a detailed, safeguard-compliant profile including text, photo, and short video to support continued follow-up.

  • Education Monitoring: Teams coordinated with local schools to monitor attendance and identify children at risk of academic or behavioral challenges. Those in need were referred to case management for personalized support.

  • Psychosocial Support: New peer groups were created that provided safe spaces for children to express emotions and rebuild confidence.

  • Essential Relief: 1,204 food baskets were distributed to caregivers during Ramadan to ease financial burdens. Additionally, 2,800 sets of Eid clothing were delivered to orphans, ensuring every child could celebrate with dignity and joy.

These activities directly enhanced well-being and stability for orphaned children, many of whom face daily uncertainty. One caregiver from Al-Bab shared: “For a few days, I didn’t have to worry about food or clothes. I could sit with my children, listen to them, and feel peace again.”

Through these coordinated efforts, Life for Relief and Development continues to bring relief and hope to children in Syria, not only meeting their physical needs but also restoring their sense of belonging, confidence, and future potential.
